A 17-year-old Chicago man was charged with aggravated battery early
Sunday in the shooting of a juvenile after an apparent dispute in the
parking lot behind Burger King, at 1829 Dempster St.

Anthony Peter Paul Davis, 17, of 6631 S. Claremont, Chicago, was charged
with one felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm and one
felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, in connection with
the incident.

He is scheduled to appear on the charges July 15 in Cook County 2nd
District Circuit Court, Skokie.

Witnesses reported hearing loud words exchanged between groups of people
in the lot before the shooting of the juvenile, said Cmdr. Tom Guenther,
the Evanston Police Department's public information officer.

He said police received a call at about 12:02 am., of shots fired in the
area of the 1800 block of Dempster Street.

Officers found that the juvenile had been shot once in his upper left
arm, Guenther said.

At about the same time, he said, police units responded by radio that
they were pursuing suspects on foot. Officers arrested the suspect on
the street, Guenther said, and Anthony Davis was identified a short time
later as the offender, said Guenther, who praised police for their quick
work in locating the suspect.

Guenther said Evanston paramedics took the 16-year-old juvenile victim
to an area hospital. The juvenile was in stable condition, Guenther
said, and his wound not considered life threatening.
