Police in Evanston are investigating an early morning shooting that left a Chicago man dead Sunday. 
Helder Torres, 21, of 4923 N. Whipple St., was shot at 1741 Grey Ave. in Evanston. He was pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m. at Evanston Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. 
Officers responded to a call of a person shot at the Grey Avenue address about 12:20 a.m., according to a release from Evanston police. 
Torres was found unresponsive behind a home there. 
The Evanston Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force are interviewing witnesses and processing the crime scene Sunday afternoon, the release said. A portion of Grey was closed to traffic late Sunday morning. 
A motive in the slaying was not known, and no one is in custody. 
Police ask anyone with information involving the shooting to call the department's investigations division at (847) 866-5040 or (847) 866-5000.
