[Dewey-Darrow] Aldermanic Roundtable Postponement

It's with a certain amount of consternation that I am postponing the aldermanic meet that I and Joan had originally planned for this Wednesday.
 
Once into the process, I was informed that District 65 requires a $1 million insurance policy w/them named as additional insured.  This is a relatively new item, made after a recent audit of the District showed that there were non-school uses of Washington School that weren't carrying insurance.  
 
Foolish me; I figured that our neighborhood school auditorium was ours to schedule merely because we paid property taxes.
 
 
The District has been essentially worthless in helping.  After assuring me that "this happens all the time, it's simple" (paraphrased), I have as yet been unable to find even one person or organization that has made it happen.  It has been confusing, and honestly, mildly enervating dealing with the District.
 
 
I was quite happy to put up a few bucks for janitorial, maintenance, refreshments, or whatever else would make this thing happen, but I'm not ready to shell out several hundred dollars for an insurance policy.
 
 
I held off on publicity (which I had budgeted some funds for) until I had the insurance thing figured out.  Now that we are days away from the planned event, and I've done no publicity outside of the listservs and a little viewed pub in the Roundtable.  If no one shows up, it's of no use, and a disservice to the candidates who are ready to tell us who they are.
 
 
We think we have an insurance solution, but won't know until tomorrow or Wednesday, too late to make this happen effectively.
 
 
I am extremely sorry for anyone who has put this on their calendar and scheduled around it.  If anyone wants to communicate with me directly, you can use my personal email address so we don't clog up the listserv.

I will be putting this on in the not distant future when I have secured an insurance policy for the event.  The election is not until April, so there is still time.
