Hello again Reggie -
I hope that doings on your beat have been quiet, and that you are not to hard-pressed to attend to yet another of my complaints regarding an incident which occurred immediately outside of my front door around sunset this evening. I did have dispatch send a unit to take my report but, realistically, know that the chances of any further action are “slim to none”. I am informing you of this because – during the course of the incident – the offender had some words with the young adults from the first-floor apartment of 1822 Crain which, themselves, seem to be the beginnings of more problems for our neighborhood.
About 8:30pm tonight – while it was still light outside – I thought I heard a voice outside my front door and upon opening it discovered a late-teens to mid-twenties, dark-complected black male wearing ill-fitted cargo/Bermuda shorts over black/aqua checked boxers who was holding his privates in his hand and urinating on my flowers and front porch. He wore a cap (red?) over his hair, which I believe was braided, and was approximately 5'9” / 155#.
After I had shouted out a certain expletive inquiry to him – to which he gave the obvious reply – I advised him to “tie a knot in it and go find a restroom” to no avail. At that point I began to walk out of the house to the curb in order to obtain the license number of the vehicle (being driven by a woman) that was awaiting his return – IL “H32 2357” (if I remember it correctly) attached to an older compact car that is aqua-blue in color.
At that point he had finished and strolled over to the 3 adolescent male individuals that were hanging out on the front steps of the 1822 premises to have some words with them, although I cannot say for certain that they were acquainted. After some brief words with them he got into the car which drove east to either 1100 Dewey or its alley.
Regardless of the outcome of this incident, I want to ask that the EPD – and all residents here in the 1800 block of Crain – keep close tabs on the young males coming and going from the 1822 premises. My “spider-sense” tells me that they have the makings of problems for our quiet little neighborhood since I have already witnessed their behavior on more than 3 occasions. These individuals (along with their noisy cars and friends) have arrived on the scene since Pastor Bentley originally leased that unit to only one female (that has never posed any problem) and it may be time to enlist his assistance to avoid any further problems from them.
I can appreciate what it may be like to lack a "father-figure" growing up; however, that is not an excuse for NOT acting as a civilized person and I, if only by myself, WILL NOT tolerate individuals that believe they may "live as I please" in our neighborhood - that is what our ordinances (both civil and criminal) are for.
Thanks for your attention to this matter.
Bob Nierodzik
