Noyes Art Gallery Black History Month Exhibit
The Noyes Cultural Arts Center Gallery, as part of Black History Month, presents an exhibit of creative dialogue: “A Call to Action: An Artistic Dialogue Among Ten Artists.” Through their own lens, each of the ten artists addresses the open ended statement—“yes we can—yes we did—but we’re not done.” Through an exhibit of sculpture, paintings, and photography the artists offer a unique insight into the inauguration of an American Black President. The exhibit at the Noyes Art Gallery, 927 Noyes St., curated by Carolyn Elaine, runs through March 9. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.—7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.—6 p.m. Sunday. The building is accessible, and group tours are available. Admission is always free. For more information, call 847/448-8260.
Mayor Presents Rotary President Key to City
Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl presented John Kenny, President of Rotary International, the Key to the City of Evanston during their Board of Directors meeting on January 28. Rotary International moved to its Evanston headquarters on Sherman Avenue in 1987, and the City of Evanston has welcomed their commitment to the community ever since.
"It is indeed an honor to have the international headquarters of the Rotary located right here in Evanston," said Mayor Tisdahl. "They are an important part of our community and I applaud them for their commitment to the City not just for having moved here but also for voluntarily paying taxes as a non-profit organization. I wish them nothing but success with all their incredible work they do around the world."

Eco Corner:
In April 2009, the City began the roll-out of its new, larger recycling containers to all residential (1 to 4 units) refuse and recycling customers. The project, which was partially funded through an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (IL DCEO) grant of $120,000, will increase the amount of recyclable materials the City is able to collect.
The new containers are 65 and 95 gallon capacity and have lids to keep materials contained. 35 gallon roll carts are available for seniors and residents that can not maneuver the larger containers. The project roll-out was administered collection route by route, with the last route expected to be completed by January 31st.
New containers have a sticker adhered to the inner lid that illustrates what is accepted through the City’s recycling program. For a list of materials accepted through the City’s recycling program, download the City’s Recycling Guide. For information on additional City recycling programs, visit www.cityofevanston.org/recycling.
